I’m totally losing myself in youtube videos. My girlfriend got me listening to Chopin after a snippet of his work was added in at the end of Muse’s United States of Eurasia off of their latest album. I particularly like that song because of the high production values.

So it seems that music is much more than just something you may like. At the About.com website there is talk of music and the many therapies and stress management assistance it can bring. When you motivate yourself with your favorite song at the gym, this is a kind of therapy. It also says that when you listen to positive music with upbeat tones your mood can change along with the help of the song. Check it out in the URL below. I always heard that if you play classical music when a baby is just born, they end up smarter, or likely to pick things up than kids that don’t. Tell me what you think.

So, I always wanted to be one of the cool thugs. You know the type, new clothes, clean hair cut, breaks all the rules. Well, maybe that isn’t necessarily a gangster. But they did listen to rap and hip-hop. So I tried to be like them during my middle school years. I never broke the rules, I couldn’t afford new clothes and I had no fashion sense. Needless to say, the ladies were not looking at me. Enter freshmen year of high school. My high school was very diverse. And when i say “diverse”, I mean “diverse!” There were kids who always walked into classrooms with big boots, small flats, flip-flops(in winter), socks, no shoes, clown shoes, you name it and you’d find it at my high school. I didn’t fit in with my baggie Dickie jeans and ugly Ecko shirts. I was shy. I spent a month going to subway during lunch just to avoid people. Some kids I knew started calling me Jared. I hated my first couple of months. I knew this girl. She was in my division. She was short, cute, and decked out in all of the best “rocker” clothing. She introduced me to many of the bands I listen to now. She had a great knowledge of bands and musical genres and basically everything I wanted to know because I knew nothing about. I learned to appreciate music. I learned that in those long awkward patches in life where we must acclimate to new surrounding or situations, there are friends. And no I’m not talking about your best friends, or your family or that cool kid at work or in school who talks about all the fun he’s having and your not. I’m talking about the comforting voice of radiohead record when your down, or the sweet tune from an old billy holiday track when your having a good day, or blaring noise from your speakers as your favorite System of a Down song come on. These things get me through the day. They will be your best friends in the those moments when your alone, bored, or when you just feel like dancing. Get that feeling are you? Go listen to your favorite song right now and tell me you don’t feel better after hearing it? I DARE YOU.

Legend says it that Jonny Greenwood originally joined the band as a harmonica player. Now he’s one of the most recognizable guitarists in alternative music. Hmm…What a delightful turn of events.

So, I wasn’t much of the music person until my freshmen year of high school. That is to say that I couldn’t even tell you who was on the radio at that time had you asked me. I was the nerd. I’d bury myself so heavily into my books and my video games that I’d overlook anything else. Some time before high school I had kept some songs on ONE CD that a friend of mine had given to me. Needless to say, I copied this CD over and over because I really liked what was on it. Eventually, I found who the voices on the tracks were. Looking back at it now, I guess you could call me an idiot for not knowing who bands like Linkin Park, Vertical Horizon and Finch were but that was my life. I never really listened to rock. To tell you the truth I always wanted to be the gangster rapper. That’s a joke. Mostly. I loved the Wu-Tang Clan. Still do. My brother was a Bone Thugs and Harmony, thug wanna-be. But I have to give to him, he made it work for him. Tell you the rest later.
